This is a picture of the engine bay of The Cigarette.

I think they are naturally aspirated 482's. On this basis, I think the transition to the mechanial fuel injection motors was for the first of the 36' Cigarettes. Obviously Mr.K was THE MAN (and still is in my book) and my best guess is that the first 36' built, Black Tornado, probably had the first injection motors. I think this is a picture of the engine compartment of that boat, taken at Cowes.

My Dad owned this boat between 68 and 76.

It sank in the 68 Cowes Torquay and he bought the salvage rights. It had some of the only 482's in existance, they were specially flown in to the UK for that race. They look the same as the motors in The Cigarette. I have subsequently heard that there were a lot of upset people, including Don Aronow, when the Magnum and motors fell into someone elses hands, probably because the motors were prototypes borrowed from Mr.K???

Its such a shame that "The Cigarette" the Australian one was chopped up only a few years ago,was thinking the other day...why not just give someone the hull,rather then chop up.
The white boat is a 32 foot? What happened to her after 1976?

What part of the world are you in Rob? Looking at the time, you are either UK based or you don’t like sleep??
My Dad sold it to a Scandinavian who was into ski racing. The boat is still over there. I saw some pictures of it 5 years ago and have been trying to convince my Dad it's a good idea to go and buy it ever since......one day I would like to get it back, albeit it's a real mess and needs masses of work.
Thinking about my post above, it may have been Kiekhaefer Aeromarine 1 (second 36 Cig made) which had the first injection motors???? Not sure but it would be nice to find out.
This is what my Dad has just completed restoring. 1971 Mag 27 with a pair of 383' on Bravo One.

As a young lad my dad had one of the 1st 25 Bertrams in Australia,then one of the 1st shaft driven 28s.
On Port Phillip bay,like yesterday ,I can remember the races between Arnold Glass in The Cigarette and Peter Dean in his Magnum 28 foot with twin Chevs.
The Cigarette was chopped up ,while I'm trying to find Deans Magnum,suspect its long gone.
As a young lad my dad had one of the 1st 25 Bertrams in Australia,then one of the 1st shaft driven 28s.

I know the owner of Dry Martini, Mike Bontoft, very well. The boat is stored in the yard where I work. I have been fortunate enough to drive it at the last two Cowes Torquays. It is an absolute gem, he has done an incredible job rebuilding it. I would be sad to see it go!

I would have thought that boat would have sold at that price...but i guess.
Storage and running costs would scare of a few.
Its a pity historic boats are not like historic race cars,plenty of events and followers.

Aronow of course couldn't miss the opportunity to give his friend a little busting and when he was contacted about the press release info, he quickly countered with.....Oh yes, that is the best offshore boat ever built! As you can see it was named after the three partners who have done the most in offshore KAM. Kiekhaefer - Aronow - Magoon!!
