Peter Dean's Slingshot Cigarette now

Just wanted to update this thread. I met the guy today at the marina who owns this boat. It is the original 35 Slingshot. When He got it it had a 3 man bolster seat in it and had blower hatches, engines etc removed was apparently in a shocking condition. He had the cockpit and deck completely altered/rebuilt. Spent almost $300k australian on rebuilding this boat for a family pleasure cruiser. It has twin 496ho mags in it. It has come up beautiful. I will post some pics next time I see him.
Slingshot now sits right next to my top gun .

I still think that´s one bad idea to turn an old race boat to a cruiser... why not buy a Bertram for those 300K aussies or some sportfisherman and keep this one as a toy...

Guys
Just found this thread!
A few things..
Dean's 40 Cigarette was turned into a pleasure cruiser in the late 1970's..it was owned by Barry McMillan at one stage. "Irish" is Kevin McCarroll, noted engine builder and race boat tuner, who ran with Barry McMillan, Barry Stevens and then Steve Ackerie.
The boat that stuffed in Pt Phillip Bay in 1978 was a light weight 39 special Peter took to the Worlds in 1977. Brian Stevens bought it and Barry McMillan drove it in that race. Brian then bought the ex American Eagle which became Whippy's Eagle. He and Barry traded the baost over the next 5 or 6 years before Steve Ackerie bought it.
Camstar was the old Midstar, Barry McMillans 28 Cigarette. He and Brian Stevens in Whiplash ( also a 28 Cigarette) had some classic battles. Both had single 482 Mercruisers, but Steven's was fuel injected. Batry sold Midstar to Doug Bricker who raced it as Taurus before it went to Brian Fisher. Whiplash went to Tony Low before moving to Geoff Diceri...don't know what happened thereafter.
Maybe we should start a thread for Aussie classis boats!!

there is an offshore magnum at Race marine...it would be about a 28 ft. It is black and is old...I don't know much about who's it was or the story behind it. Next time I'm at race marine i'll find some goss on the boat.
Pete, welcome aboard mate. We need you here!

Peter Dean told me once that the boat snapped as it had long fuel tanks glasses in that were removed and that weakened it?
Kevin Mc said it was very surreal to see your bow go over your head
