Find a not direct source of light (near a window with tent for example), avoiding light reflection on the image and eliminating the function of the flash, put the macro function and a bit of zoom to avoid the effect of curving of a 35mm lens too close to the subject (you can take the picture from 30-40 cm - 1"-1".5).
The result will be very close to that of a medium quality scanner.

Seeing that anyone post pics I try as usual.
Some pics of the Satullo's Bertram in 1976(with the #1).
That 38' was the first offshore boat ever built in Kevlar 49 of DuPont.
Note Mel Riggs in the cockpit of the first pic after the winning race Stroh's Grand National at Cedar Point,Ohio in 1976. Satullo repeating the victory in the same race with the same boat a year later.

On the left probably the 22' Chris Craft which was the first boat for Sandy Satullo which fought against the 28' Magnum of the friend-rival Dominic Visconsi in duels on Lake Erie before both buy a 36' Cigarette each in 1972.
On the right the wooden prototype version of the 40' Gara that almost sank during a test before the Kirby Classic on Lake Erie in 1973.

If you're referring to the first close up picture of this is published in Searace of Crouse. If you're referring to the third picture is a frame from a great video of the 1976 APBA season produced by Team Kudu of Paul and Betty Cook.
Here are other frames.

Here the 40' Corsa (former Gara after the crack of the latter yard) Copper Kettle with a whole new deck who helped Satullo to win the APBA National Title in 1975.
