Not sure exactly when it changed, it was several years ago. The UIM rules for Marathon Class open boats states no open face helmets. This does not apply to canopy boats.

Yes, the boat sank in 180' of water 1968 in Lyme Bay, South Coast of UK. The ballast tank delaminated............my father bought the salvage rights and rebuilt the boat. It was under water for 3 months.....had some of the only 482's in existance..........http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/c...garette-9.html

Speaking of ads, anyone remember the TV ads in the late 80's for HFC during the televised offshore racing series? The ad started with a closeup of a marker buoy floating on an open sea, then out of nowhere an offshore racer blasts by the buoy in slow motion washing it over with its wake, then the buoy returns upright to float on the calm sea. Ive proabaly got it on a vhs tape (talk about old school) somewhere, but i have no idea of how to resurrect it. Very cool. Cooler still was the fact that the series races were being televised- I think on ESPN.
