Christian,

I hear ya, not this week....I know the boat well....Or just I just drive to Brick and make an offer on a yellow Magnum, the problem with the Magnum I do not have the mechanical aptitude to keep those motors and transmissions together, so then I have reach into my wallet and have Bob Wallace, Offshore Performance (a plug for Bob) $$$$ fix the problem.

Part of the joys of boat ownership (I am being sarcastic). Nothing is happening this summer, I am moving next week to Washington Twp. One thing at a time....I do like Mr. Berk's Sutphen, I have always liked Sutphens.

That was a stock powered pleasure boat, and very fast for that time, 1989, 1990, 1991, not sure of the exact year, but fast for that time period.

This thread has me really searching my brain for more stock powered fast boats.

TX2 and Brownie could really enlighten us more about the 70's. Holman and Moody were putting the Z-28 engines in boats, and the only reason I know this is when my father bought his 20' Cigarette from Don in 1973 I was in Miami with him, and eight year old boy me) and the boat had a Holman and Moody 350 cu.in Z-28 motor. Stock power.

What power was Volvo selling with the 270 & 280 drives? Some of those Volvo had speedmaster lowers., I thought the Volvo 270's were limited to about 425 hp before it blew the upper (I saw this happen to my father in the 20' Cigarette) ? So what stock power was fast in the early 70's or even the 60's?

Someone chime in and teach us all, I love to hear and learn about these things,...
Z28's ran a 302 ci engine... real Z28's anyway

That picture of the boat in the water had to be 1989 or 1990, because I was dating the red-head in the boat then, picture was taken at Long Port, NJ. She loved me, she absolutely hated when my father and I would race any boat that came along, especially in the ocean.
Holy crap, what a hot rod!!!!!!! LOL
I wish I had got to me him. First I've seen the engine pics.

69 was the last of the 302, the solid lifter LT1 350's that came out in the 1970.5's were pretty healthy though as well.

The 302 in 1968, 1969, hell I was only four years old then, the 350 in the 70's Ratman. My mother used to drive me as a little kid in a Z28, she was pulled over for speeding numerous times, she had an extremely heavy foot. I preferred the 1970 body style over the and the LT1 was pretty stout engine at that time. I do like both body styles, the faster newer car appealed to me as a child.

I don't know why I let you bait me in like that.....

I had them both back in the day. Nice cars. Street raced them against the Boss 302 and Boss 351 Mustang. The Mustang would win most of the time. Good memories, lot's of fun.

My father used to follow Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins (Phillu guy), that is why I was always a fan of the 350 cu.in., and Grumpy; the 350 worked well in alot of other race cars and boats too. this thread sidetracked but that is ok, this all good stuff, if you are a hot rod boater how could not like a fast Mustang, Camaro (Z-28), Corvette, Super Bird, or even a hot-rod Vega. fast is fast cars, boats, motorcycles, snowmobiles, I would love to fast in or on anything. My first car was a VW Bug, so raced all the other Bugs I could find on the street. same thing with boats, raced all the other 13' Boston Whalers I could find as a kid, or dirt bikes too...

I hear ya on the street racing thing, my father also had a Mustang with a pretty tense 302 in it, he did not like when I took that out, all he would worry about is how much tread I had smoked off of the back tires every-time I took it out.

So what other old school fast boats were out there that were STOCK????

Think what that would be worth today. My father had to sell his 63 split window Vette due to my birth, it was his tow vehicle.

I towed my 18 Donzi with my 64 coupe 327/365 engine. My buddy towed his 18 Donzi with his convertible Mustang GT. We launched together, side by side in Atlantic Highlands, his parking brake popped and the Mustang slid underwater with his girlfriend screaming in the passenger seat, top down. The mustang top down, not her top down. Anyway the donzi floated like a cork, but the Stang was scrap. He later married the girl and that is Jersey. LOL!
