None of Tom's boat were production class. He owned at least 4 of Larry's Team Scarab's not all of witch were Race boats The 43 is the very first boat out of the mold as was the 46 and 26 his 38 was not the first but very early in the production. the 43 in question was built to be a race boat but in testing the hull did not perform to expectations and the boat was converted into a pleasure boat for Tom. the first 2 43's built were not the best they could be. after the first two boats were built there were modifications made to the mold to help with the handling issue's witch were a complete success. and the rest was history as the 43 Team Scarab #5 boat with Gentry power proved by setting the world speed record at 126 MPH in 1993. This is the first 43, as I communicated in my P.M. to you, Philip. It's a 1986 build, and Tom Gentry and Larry were not happy with it, and kept it as a test mule, while Larry built Tom's other Team Scarab boats for his race team. As Dan mentioned the number #5 Gentry Powered 43' set the speed record at 126 mph, and Larry at the same time had done the hull design modifications to this number #1 boat as needed, so Tom Gentry raced it personally in 1992 and 1993. After Mr Gentry had his tragic, well-known accident, and passed away; this boat and Gentry Marine Power were bought by Vern Gilbert and he totally restored it like new, and converted it to a Poker Run boat for his wife, and himself, and ran it in Hawaii, and in Southern California. He eventually sold the twin Gentry Turbo 1,100 hp carb motors and the drives. The boat bounced around and eventually sold to a fellow in San Fernando Valley, Greater Los Angeles, CA.
