the last outboard one I ran had twin V8 Johnson's and I ran it to 114 mph so they must not have known what they were doing. the last sterndrive one I drove had 550 hp motors and ran 108 to 110 with no problems.

i thought they ran like 80 something with twin 500's
110 with 550... either the boat was very light or...???? But t i sure hope 110 with only 550 is true!

I rode on an American Offshore 3100 that ran low 90s w/ 496HOs. I've read the boat w/ 500s would consistently be a mid nineties machine. 110mph was achievable with 650HP is what I was told by an owner with NA 650s.

they dont like running below mid 70's. at that point they start to air out and pick up speed. if the drives are real deep they will struggle. once they air out they will start gaining speed and smooth out and gain speed pretty quick. I have run Chris Cats out in pretty rough water at 80+ with no problems. they are not super light but they are tall free board compared to most and love running in rough water. btw, my dad was VP and then Pres of Chris Craft during that time so I got to run quite a few of them.

Just for the record this is one of my favorite boats and I would own one if I could afford to insure it.

motors may have been closer to 600hp, never trust dyno's if I dont know the correction factor they are using. we spun the motors to 6500 as you dont need a ton of top end power once the boat airs out. Chris Cat is still one of my favorite cats out there and I have run quite a few different ones but for an overall cat that runs in calm and rough and has classic lines the Chris Cat is top of my list.

that boat runs in the 80's because it has #2's on it. they are real deep. a set of #4's and she would likely run mid 90's as it would really free it up. the boat I have shown that is for sale had 2's on it. I told him the same thing and he put on a set of trs drive he had as they are shorter and she hit the upper 70's and smoothed out and started gaining speed into the mid 80's for the first time. it was finally starting to run on the air and he had a wiring problem (a rod came out the side of the block and ripped the wiring out). that is why one engine is out and he has new rotating assymblies for it.
