Do yourself a favor and put roller camshafts in the new engines.

Not many boats that age that don't but really if its just transom and engine stringers not that bad. I mean there are not many turn key 35 year old boats unless they have been redone. It is pretty cool the original motors and turbo's are there, that is sweet.

Good afternoon ya'll motors are at the machine shop, as far as stringer and transom they are solid as a rock. Not sure where this boat came from hopefully someone will chime in one day and give us all some history on it.

So here's what's going on with the motors we're going to use the existing cranks and rods, both motors still have amazing hash marks in all cylinders unfortunately Both blocks cracked in the same spot which I've never seen, found 2 445 casting # blocks by luck which is what came out of it. I'm looking for any info on piston, cam, lifter set ups for this motor ring clearance for boost ect... not out to break records but I'd like to see a true 75-80 mph somewhat reliably. It will be going back 100% as it was when it was built from fountain. Thanks in advance for all the help and comments.

Powerboat Magazine did a review of a 30" Scarab S-type and a 30' Chris Craft Stinger and a 30' Executioner in 1980 All three boats had the Mercruiser 475 Twin turbo engines. All three boats had 15 x 23 3 blade props on the SSM II drives. The SSM II drives are usually a 1.33 ratio. I would not go with a 27 or 29, find a set of 23" and go from there especially if your engines are stock sized. Even on my 38' Scarab that has the SSM II drives, the props are labbed 23"s. I pulled the SSM II drives off and installed TRS and was spinning 28" bravo props up to 5400.

A good engine shop will know what ring gap to use for turbo engines. I would not worry too much about block casting numbers. just find a good pair of MK4 4 bolt blocks. have the cranks and rods checked. It the crank needs to be turned, sell it and get a Eagle forged crank. I am building a pair of 496 strokers for my turbo system. Im using a CNC Motorsports 496 stroker kit with flat top JE pistons. The original compression ratio was 7.5:1. Comp use to make a hyd flat tappet turbo cam. Engle was the company that supplied the turbo cams for Gale Banks turbo marine engines. They can still make cams but I would also go roller (I am using a Engle roller cam and Johnson lifters) Use inconel exhaust valves. The biggest downfall of the turbo system are the log manifolds. Set you turbo boost for about 5 psi unless you can find a Gale Banks or PFM intercooler, then you can go up to 10 psi it you install wastegates.
