I think I already know the answer here........

Will this method work on the 496, or is that a different monster? I am guessing no, but figured the only dumb question is the one not asked....

I just tried this on a 2000 Indmar 5.7L MPEFI (called an "Assault" in a Supra), and either I'm doing it wrong or it doesn't work on this motor. I can hear the IAC cycle when I plug the A-B jumper in & out, but the LED is not flashing at all. Any ideas?

ETA - the LEDs I picked up are the wrong voltage range. I should've taken my reading glasses into the store.

Well, I just spent an hour exchanging for the right voltage LED, but the light just stays on. It doesn't flash when I plug in the jumper.

really not going to go anywhere with it cause it does not work for MEFI 4 as possible you have. Indmar engine serial # would tell me if in fact what MEFI you have. Also back side of the ECM should have a sticker on it. That also can tell you what you have as far as 3 or 4.

MEFI 3 looks exactly like MEFI 4. There is no external visual difference. The winky blinky only works for MEFI 1 thru 3.

Also Dave N posted this as a laymen test tool on the cheap --- just for fault codes ( blinking a flash ). It is best to use a real scan tool for proper diagnostics.

Bummer. I probably have gen 4 then. I have a friend with a real scan tool. He is coming by this week. Thanks.

I understand old post - wanted to post on this - Volvo 496 used MEFI 4 from 2001 thru / mid 2005, then went to E controls and currently ( E controls ) Anyways winky blinky does not work for either here. It does work for MEFI 1 thru MEFI 3. And Volvo never used MEFI 2 period. .

why not get a USB to ALDL cable? They are pretty cheap and you can data log with them with tools like TunerPro RT
