My trailer is painted with Black Imron. Can I use the above to adhere Aluminum Treadbrite to it to dress it up or do I need to use mechanical fasteners along with it. What kind of surface prep is it going to take.
Thanks, Dave

I would with out a doubt use mechanical fasteners. Maybe less of them if you use the 5200. I assume you have a steel trailer? If so then I would put rubber between the two and used stainless hardware. This will help with galvanic corrosion.

forget all the rubber and just use 5200. The sealant will provide seperation between the aluminum and the steel. The only thing is that it will never come off !

That is why I do not like it. If you have a small accident it could be a nightmare. I used the rubber like an intertube to have the seperation on my galvanized trailer with alluminum wheel wells.

You can always use 4200 it is removable. No need for fasteners even if you just use 3m 3200 marine silicon. Says it is not for bonding, but I have used it for years to mount stainless and aluminum plates without fasteners in bilges and on trailers.

All the aluminum work on my trailer is held in place with 3M double-sided tape.
