SBC Intake an Carb. upgrade?

Hello, I recently purchased a 89' Donzi z-22 with a SBC OMC Cobra 350. I'm looking to do a simple intake and carb. upgrade and am looking for suggestions. What is my best bang for the buck; Edelbrock, Weiand, or Holley intake? Would you recommend the Edelbrock or Holley 600 CFM carb?

You probably won't pick up any gains with a carb/manifold swap and you're likely to give up driveability in the process. The engine you have is a fairly well-matched combination. If any gains were to be had from it, you'd probably have to do several thing to realize any gains. The biggest performance detriment is your stock exhaust. The're heavy and restrictive. If you can't get the exhaust out efficiently, more fuel won't help. Once you open up the exhaust, you'll probably need a bit more cam to let that additional flow into the motor. For any real gain, you'll want a hydraulic roller. Plus, now that you're turning the motor a bit faster, you're probably going to need roller lifters. All in all, you can probably gain 5 mph or so. The exhaust will set you back close to $2500, another $800 in cam/lifters, $300 for rockers and $700 for a carb/intake. Toss a couple hundred more in for odds & ends (gaskets, etc) and you're at $4500. Plus you'll probably need a better prop.
That's alot of dough. Most people don't realize this until they've spent half of it piecemealing parts on, looking for speed increases that they're not seeing until they've spent the other half.
On top of all of it, that outdrive was made by a company that no longer exists so parts are scarce. I wouldn't lean on it too hard.
Enjoy the boat for what it is and put that $$ away- in a while you can put it towards your next boat. Putting it in this one isn't going to give you much in return on performance and it definitely won't boost it's value anywhere near what you spend.

SBC? Carb - Holley 650 DP running smaller (ish) jets. What area are you in? Lake or sea level? Average Temp?
Inlet? Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap or the Summit Copy for around $80 less. What are you head cast numbers? Stock Exhaust? Deffinately need to upgrade the exhaust for any gains to be worthwhile. Even a nice set of manifolds and risers 2nd hand just to see the difference!
It's that or ditch the whole lot, grab a Merc 454 MPI and drop a Bravo1 behind it if you really want to move!
