Pinned MSD Dist.-Problem??
I have a MSD probillet dist that is pinned, as in no advance. Will it hurt anything to keep using it like that? I run 34deg on a 630hp 509. I also have a TB IV, but the boat runs and idles better with the MSD, just not sure if 34deg at idle will cause any problems.

I have run a fixed timing for 15 yrs now. If your running non supercharged 34 should be fine. I run 32-34 total with 600cu in blown on 93octane .Starts great & idles with no fouling the plugs..

I have just managed to break the ring grear loose from the flywheel, is that because of all the advance at startup??
Can I weld the ring gear to the flywheel to avoid pulling the engine?? I know the welds will have to be fairly even to keep the flywheel bananced.
I may be the retard in this box!!!

The ring gear is just spinning on the flywheel. It drags and wants to turn the motor over just a little. Why will putting four evenly spaced welds with a mig welder not work? I was not planning on welding it all the way aroung just tack the ring to the flywheel in a few spots.

It might work, but I would be afarid of the ring gear being bad and cracking and then causing other damage. Its loose and by spinning on the flywheel, its getting looser.
How are you going to get to the ring gear with the bell housing on????
