I use to think this was bulll****t. That's until I tore an engine down after not changing lines and cooler after a blowup and saw terrible bearings with tons of crap run through them. The engine still ran fine but it was subjected to much debris and its life was going to be short if I didn't tear it down again for other reasons.

Yes, much cleaning. Diesel fuel and compressed air. You just can't get it all. It gets driven into the nooks and crannies under 60-80psi. Then seems to reenter the oil path randomly. It's hard enough to build one clean without sabatoging yourself.
