Default stereo questions

I want to upgrade my stereo system and was wondering how hard it is to do yourself? Who has done it?

All depends on how complex you want to get. A 4 speaker system with a single amp and subwoofer is pretty straight forward. Running multiple speakers ( more then 4) can get a little more tricky as far as wiring, amps goes. Still not that big of a issue if you have decent comprehension skills..

Wiring is pretty straight forward depending on how complex the system will be (like John said). The part that can be somewhat difficult is the placement of speakers for sound and amps where they'll live happily.

If you're semi-savvy with electrical stuff you'll be just fine.

Knowing how to read a wiring diagram, figure resistance on basic circuits, and make good connections will get you through it.

my 14 year old just did two amp install . 2 subs four seperates in his ski centurian . its simple as chit to do . just make sure everything will stay dry . and good solid connections , make sure you fuse the entire amplification system , simple . ps smaller boats take a beating . so will the amps . tighten up the connections . support the the wires . no flopping around . good luck go for it ,

Boat stereo is much simpler than modern car stereo.
Spend some time reading and learning. Maybe get some help from a local boater (no guarantee their advice will be perfect either).

You will probably make some mistakes that will have you chasing problems like ground loop, improper fusing or too small wires but not much is catastrophic, just bug chasing. You will either learn more or become frustrated and have it professionally fixed.

Although 99% of DIY crimps are made with the cheap, single crimp tools. As I have done more extensive electrical and stereo work, I learned about the importance of proper crimps and discovered there IS a better tool. More expensive than the crappy tool included in $10 kits but the ease and results of a quality tool like this Anchor were eye opening.
