502's
Hey guys,
Just purchased a set of 2002 Merc hp 500's 502's just the long blocks, Im looking for 600hp per engine and these are just longblocks so I have decided to go with carburetors instead of the fuel injection setup. My question is looking for 600hp an engine what upgrades should I be looking at to obtain these numbers? I would like to keep the short blocks the way they are without having to buy new rotating asemblies as they just need a refresh and not a rebuild, I would also prefer to keep the heads on it now and just have them machined and worked along with new valvetrain setup and intake and carburetor. Just don't know exactly what setup will get me to the numbers we are looking for? If anyone has a similiar engine setup with roughly 600hp I'd be very interested to hear how they are setup. Thank you. Gregg.

Bob madara cam/valvetrain (call him), Brodix HV 2000 intake, 900-950cfm carb, a little bump in the comp to 9 to 9.5-1, and AFR heads from Bob. Just sell the 088s you have and put it towards the AFRs. This set up will make 600 or better horsepower.

Honestly haven't even thought about exhaust yet just want to get engines built first, was thinking a set of CMI's or something of that nature.

I just had an engine dyno'd, all stock long block except .030 over so a 509ci. Stock forged crank, rods,& pistons. Stock 088 heads,Bob Madera sold me the entire valve train, cam, lifters, 1.7roller rockers, springs, keepers, retainers. Went with his recommendation of air gap manifold & quick fuel 850 carb & pulled 510hp @5300rpm & over 500lb ft of torque from 2800-5300rpm right out of the box so 600hp shouldn't be too hard to make with out spending a ton of money. I spent less than $2000.00 on new parts for what I have. Randy

randy thank you very much for the help and lil red lol I know what AFR's are I was just asking what type of AFR's they have many different types of cylinder heads so I was referring as to what particular AFR head would be best for the application.

cobra, thank you very much I will talk with Bob,I would go with blowers but the class rules will not allow it, NA only. stroking is an option for sure though.
