On a previous boat with 454 I did the Dana and the exhaust sounded much better. I used it with my switchable exhaust, in fact I called into Dana to order and was told to use the 496 risers instead of the 454 risers. Did the carb, ignition and intake at same time. No big addition in performance but sounded good. Next step went to rectangle heads and that didn't do anything, should have left the smaller heads on. Next step was pulled the engine and did a cam, now it ran good with better performance and went up a pitch in the prop. If I would have known I would have either just done the exhaust or waited and done all the mods at once. It was great experience to learn it all, the smartest thing would have been to buy a drop in 502 mag efi, sell the 454, and ended up with less money out of pocket. I understand what your wanting to do, your goals are your goals have fun with it. Here is a shot when I was done.

Yes I want to change them because I've been told over and over and read a bunch about changing after a while due to fatigue on them stock or not. Either way $100 in new ones is cheap insurance and piece of mind. All I've read is exhaust is a waste unless you do other stuff such as a cam. I don't see dropping $1500 plus on exhaust for no gain as an option. I've called and talked about exhaust and only been talked out of it. If I did what works to keep my changeable exh.
