I will be buying forged. The crank I was being told about was not a GM crank. Nodular is not an option now.

Quick story .Not that you care .A friend in the mid 80's bought a 40-42 Searay with stock 330's in it .He was dissapointed .He bought a pair of n/a 540-575 mercs .Installed them expecting a lot .Gained very litlle speed and they were noisey .To make them a little more "polite" in a cruiser he put a little less cam in them and modified intake for a couple of Quadrajets and made them a little more docile .Boat slowed even more and motors were still a little noisey .Long story short. A few years later he sold the boat and the new owner didn't like the 540's at all .We ended up selling him a pair of stock 330's and new customer was extremely happy.I accepted his motors as "cores".
Original owner later told me putting those 540's in boat was one of the least thought out things he had done in his boating life.
Big semi-displacement boat ...big motors = diesels .....IMO

That would be another side of the spectrum I haven't thought about. Thank you
