ECM for 2001 - 496 MAG BASE
My ECM took a dive on me last summer. I recall finding a well known/respected reprogrammer on-line last fall that would rebuild/reflash it or sell you a new one if they could not fix it. Unfortunately, I can't find them now. Does anyone know of a company that "remanufactures" ECM/ECU's???? What about sells used ones???
I have tried searching my part number on-line, but nothing shows up with the exact match (863618-7). There is also another number that appears to be a serial number (859610) however, that googles to be for an outboard.

Whipple reprogramed mine. However it wasn't "Bad". It does appear they have a repair service for them. www.whipplesuperchargers.com. You might find a used one on ebay. I know I have done searches in the past (out of curiosity) and found a few there. They are pricy.... Also do a search for Mercury 555 PCM. That might net you some more search results.

I had an issue exactly like this two years ago with my MEFI 3 ECM on my MX 6.2 EFI and I am sorry to be the one to tell you this but good luck on finding a replacement. Mercury really needs to step up on this as the aptions are not great for the fix. The guy who did the work on my motor has a good rep in Jacksonville, Fl his name is Kevin Brady. Through a giant stroke of luck when mine went bad at his shop he had a spare laying around that he used to diagnose 5.7 MPI's and he said the software to reprogram them costs like 25 grand and only a few people in the country can do it. Luckily he knew a guy and sent it off to be retuned for my engine peramiters. Now the bad news is unless you find someone selling one on ebay or elsewhere the only other option is purchasing the Mercury replacement ECM which costs $3,500.00 not to mention the entire wiring harness has to be redone. Good luck I hope you are able to find one!

Your model takes a PCM 555 controller by Motorola. AKA triple nickel. Not one MEFI set up will work for this stock app. There is 3 different PCM offered for that that year range. I will say again up here all parts ordering to get the correct part in the marine world from the OEM is all related to serial # not year model. Year model helps to narrow it down but a lot times does not give the exact correct part. Serial # is always required.
Most electronic parts once bought buy your odering are non refundable so keep that in mind. Anyways retail on your PCM 555 range is around 2200 bucks going off the top of my head. I can get them for you if needed. If you buy a used one - I would only buy from a very well known source because I see many who always want to save a buck and the controller is either wrong for there app or does not work or has been remapped causing running issues. I see this more times than not from used units. Yes you can get a good used one but sometimes its very hard.
