I really wouldn't give it a second thought considering you said that it's a flat hatch. You can easily save 50-70 lbs of weight . That's a big deal at the end of the day. And it's strong as hell

My hatch is flat fiberglass with a scoop in the middle. It's not very thick and it's pretty wide. It holds all 240 of me pretty well unlike the rest of the deck of my boat...

I had a friend use a piece of leftover sub floor from his new house build. We glassed over it to make sure no water could get in and rot out like the last one. Thing weighed a ton but was solid!
