Default 496HO to 454 swap

Hey I have a 2004 24' aftershock tremor with a stock 496HO with about 175 hours and a bravo 1. With a 24 prop and about 4900 rpms I can do 65ish. The boat and trailer weigh 6300LBS. Anyways like everybody, I want to go faster but looked into it, and anything for this motor is expensive. It looks like getting raylar products would be my only option that I've seen.

I was wondering if I bought an old 454 and built it up to say 600hp, would be cheaper than building my 496. I'm hoping one or some of you can give me advice. Is it going to be a waste of time and I should just build up the 496? Also if I'm easy out of the hole, would I be ok with 600hp or close to it and a bravo 1? I go to lake Mohave and lake Havasu all the time and I'll never be close to the fastest, but I hate losing to a seadoo. I want to be close to 75-80

Thanks

Put a whipple on which motor? Looks like it's going to cost a small fortune to forge my 496

Put it on the 496. You won't hurt that motor. Stay at 5psi max and 5200rpms and you'll be good

I know this doesn't answer your question but I will offer this advice. If speed is your game, start with a fast hull. Unless you are in love with this boat, sell it as-is and buy a faster hull. Look for boats that are fast with stock power.

I love my 496 l, but I wouldn't put boost into it while using the stock pistons. IMO I would leave your boat alone and enjoy it.

Buying a faster boat is always the more cost effective way to go faster, but not always the most fun. If you get a block and build it up to 600hp with good parts and to be reliable will probably cost a lot more than what you think, good exhaust is 3000 to 6000 alone. If you ask me you'd be taking a step backwards technologically as well. Not saying your idea is terrible but sticking with the 496 may be a better option.

Here is a dimension link: https://www.perfprotech.com/blog/art...54-496-repower

As far as the bravo with that power, you'd have to be checking gears and lube often to stay ahead of the failure. =repeated spending money and time on it and taking it "easy" = Where's the fun in that?

These boats are spelt BOATT, bust out another ten thousand

Just to add for reliability. We had a 2004 Chevy 3500 service truck weighing at 13000lbs and pulling equipment trailers from 10k to 15k. Reving 5k on hills. thought you were in a boat with fingers crossed and feeling bad for it. Well, it did it for 275000 miles when we sold it.. and its still going. another guy on here has it now. The 496 is not as weak as you think.
