Alldodge that's what I wanted to make sure of , you are correct your diagram is what I have , I just need to route the sea water into the bottom of the manifolds and out the top in turn it just goes out the exhaust .? I am not going to use the H/E to cool the manifolds I misstated my O/P on what I wanted to do. I do not want to use the H/E to cool the manifolds

My mis-speak also, you could use the manifolds for closed as others pointed out. Still don't see you being able to use the thermostat housing you have

Blue and Red color -- If you close cool the manifold and keep the riser as raw water then coolant (Blue) is circulated in the manifold only and raw water (red) goes only into the riser
Green -- Raw water circulates thru the manifold and riser, no coolant involved

Alldodge thank you that is what I needed , my h/e is the 5 inch mercruiser it should cool the manifolds if I choose to go that way since it cooled the 454 manifolds. Thank You and everyone who replied

I would not try to cool the manifolds with heat exchanger. Too complex. Pull down to the second diagram on this link and see if this looks like your setup and we will go from there. If so you can just put on that 90 shown earlier in the thread to the bottom of the new manifolds and go.

I think you will have to change thermostat housings and or Heat exchanger. I would call ppt for further advice. or you coult try the diagram alldodge provided and go with full system cooling. If your motor is 310 hp that should be fine . If its 450 hp then it probably will not.

hard to explain but some inboards have full closed cooling that include the manifolds. Its the number of times that the water is passed thru the heat exchanger that helps cooling especially when you add the manifolds in the mix plus the size of the heat exchanger. Also really nothing special about 496 manifolds - the 2 nd gen are iron not aluminum, Dana or IMCO lower line of aluminum manifolds will do just as good of job for exhaust. Especially if you were to close cool them properly. If no saltwater use will help as well.
I have posted the same before as above. https://www.perfprotech.com/blog/art...ng-full-system
