![Question](/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
question is what is poor oil pressure and how to address it.
my motors are fresh 547's, when hot , port motor is 30 psi at 1000,25 psi at 800 , and 45 at 4000.
starbd motor hot is 30 at 1000, 60 at 4000.
again fresh motors clearance was 2.5 on rods and 3 on mains
mellings oil pumps.
i dont like these numbers, ready to pull motors out!!!!!!
ask my engine builder, he really said NOTHING
sugested using hi flow filter, said the WIX large filters were constricting?
run pen brad 20/50..semi syn.....
i have run lots of big blocks never saw pressures these low.
open for thoughts and comments

thanks......

First varify with oil pressure are correct with electric gauges. Next I’ve always heard 10 lbs for every 1000 rpm. , remember those are fresh. Oil up to temp. I’d be concearned for sure. When they start loosing up it’s only going to get lower.

Do you have high performance oil pumps?
conventional oil pumps generally only provide 40-50psi at 4000rpm. high performance pumps are generally north of 55-60psi. It is a bit odd that one is higher than the other.

I would only be concerned about the engine that is 45# @4000rpms.
60# @ 4000rpms is plenty and so are the 25-30# lower rpm readings.
What about oil temps?? Are they close to the same??

I have had plenty of motors that only had 40-50 psi wide open and lived forever. the big concern to me is that you have two supposedly similar motors but way different results. if they were indeed built the same with the same pumps, etc they should not be more than a few pounds apart from each other.

i have both electric and auto meter mechancial gauages,,,they are both pulling from ,i think it is 3/4 or 1 inch pipe fitting just above where stock oil filter would go.
not sure what was meaning of ''what does your oil system consist????
