Default Helm Install

Just ran into this tonight as I as start my helm install so I have not thought of many options but figured I would see if other ran into similar situations and see what they did. I just removed a teleflex cable driven steering column to install my hydraulic helm but found out that a 3" hole was cut for the original steering shaft where my Hardin marine steering shaft calls for 2.5" (3" hole interferes with the mounting bolts). Do adaptors exist for something like this or am I on my own to fab something up ?

Thanks,
Nick

You're going to have to fab up something.I'll try to get pics of mine tomorrow. I added tilt to mine so it will be a little different.

I had a similar issue with my Cafe, I fabricated an aluminum stepped flange piece, slightly larger that the helm trim piece. The flange had the OD of the hole and the ID of 2 1/2 so the new helm would slide through. The face was left at 3/8 to add some support, I contoured the face and drilled holes to match the helm pattern. Once polished it looks like it is part of the helm. I am out of town this week, but if you need some pictures and a drawing PM me and I will send them to you.
