You may be able to source conveyor belting, new or used...that stuff can be cut and is very strong, and has enough softness to dampen the blows, but resist the gouges.
FlexSeal spray is an excellent "sealing" paint.

I second the conveyor belt idea. Cut it to fit the facets in the anchor locker and apply heavy beads of rubber adhesive to secure them together (not to the facets of the anchor locker).

Thanks. Brad.

yup you are 100% correct, plenty of boats out there with stress cracks on the hull under the anchor compartment

You need to buy an anchor holder. Like the Formulas alluded to above, my Chaparral had a big steel anchor bouncing around. I filled the gouges with epoxy, bought an anchor holder from Boat Outfitters, and then installed a new Lewmar FX-7 anchor with 8' of 1/4" SS chain and its perfect now. I will post pictures once I get to 10 posts.

Copied and pasted from my restoration thread on THT:

Not sure if I had mentioned it or not, but one project I have been planning for a while is an anchor locker revamp. In 1992, Chaparral introduced a new top cap into the hull form of the whole SX line and with it, the 2350/2550/2750 SX all got an integral anchor locker and walk-through windshield. The problem was that these boats came (to my knowledge) with very heavy, galvanized steel anchors and chain that tend to bounce around in heavy seas and as a result, gouge the gelcoat and foremost encapsulated bulkhead. The first step of this repair was to fill in the gouges with epoxy.

Holding has been excellent. and just as good as the other anchor/chain setup that I also never had a problem with, but handling is now much easier and storage a breeze.

We actually took a trip to visit family on did some extensive boating on Lake Michigan and Lake Superior. Anchor holding in sand, mud, and even rocks was exceptional and even when we were in 3-5', with an occasional 6-7' following sea crossing Green Bay, the anchor did not bounce around one bit as expected!

Here is the anchor locker holder:

Awesome suggestions. I will take some measurements of my current anchor and see if I can fit a holder inside the anchor locker.

Thanks all.

Mine is very small. I had to cut about an inch off the anchor for it to fit vertically. I drilled a new hole in the shackle. It took a while as this alloy is very strong albeit light. Holding has been amazing. Very impressed with this new setup!

Very late to the party here.
I use sheet material of HDPE, that is High Density Polyethylene.
Generally a white plastic type sheet, very tough, you can cut and form it.
Most any thickness, some 3/16 material would be super tough at taking impacts.

There are plenty of other colors and materials out there as well.
