Default Transom plate/gimbal question

Hi, first post here, looking forward to many more. Just had a rebuilt Alpha 1 put on my 1984 Wellcraft. The old transom plate or gimbal housing, where it meets the transom, the old one had some sort of sealer or gasket, black in color all around it. The new/rebuilt one does not. Did the shop miss something or is this the way they are supposed to be. Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming your talking about the part that actually attaches to the boat hull...and not where the drive mounts to the transom assembly.......technically there doesnt need to be any sealant around it....theres a rubber gasket thats supposed to seal up against the hull when you install the transom assembly.....many people do put a thin layer/coating of silicone for peace of mind...guess it depends on the installer doing the work....
