Default King Cobra Question

I am looking at a buying a 1988 Stinger, but it has OMC 460 w/ King Cobra. If I am not mistaken the 1988 King Cobra had clutch dogs and I am nervouse about them. My question is will the later model 91 and up i.e. cone clutch model bolt up as a direct replacement? I understand the cone clutch was much better. Any help would be great.

Thank You.

yes, it has a clutch dog in the lower unit, they held up well as long as the shift was adj. properly, did it get the recall done on it in 89, 5 deg. back cut gears and new shift cable? if not thats your only draw back. and no, the newer king cobra is not a direct replacement unless you change the transom assy.
