Help!! TRS Merctrans II vs 454 470 hp
First of all, I´m swedish, so my english is not that god.....
I have a Sea Ray 270 Sedan Bridge -80 Whit 330 hp 454 Mercrusier, TRS and Merctans II. The oil in the trans ran outand it burnt up, so, I´m about to remove the engin and chang tran to a used MerctransII, whit all history,I have all history on.
The thing is, that I have just gott my hans on a 470 hp 454.
Will the merctrans II handel the 470 hp? and does anyone have a manual (Tecnical) for the TRS and the merctrans (blueprint)?
And does anyone hav a wild guess what will happen whit speed, fueleconomi ece?
Thanks

The merc trans is is at its limits with 470 hp. It is basically a good trannie and is pretty efficient. With stock power I guess it lasted many years. With more power it is a matter of driver habits and tendencies that with determine its dependability. It was a weak reverse set up. It will not tolerate hard reverse thrusts. It also may have a tendency to engage slowly and you need to allow it to engage before adding throttle. You can find the full service manual with in Mercruiser # 2 service book.
This I have previously photographed.
