Alpha One Shifting Issue...update
OK, I took the boat out today and it seems that it does not even engage the switch(SHIFT INTERUPTER) in forward and barely if not none in reverse. So I adjusted the top rod.. to where it does in reverse ? it worked great then I ran it for a 45min? then it was hard again to get out of gear ?
A) is the drive getting hot and is that the issue ?
B) or do both rods have to be adjusted ..you do one you have to do the other ?
Have a safe and happy weekend ! !
Thanks
Steve

The lower cable, the one that goes to the drive is set by: with motor off engage in fwd. wiggle prop and ensure it is in fwd with full engagement. set barrel center to cable end center to 6 inches. adjust barrel if nec.. Attach cable. Once set do not change, Adjust the slide to near the top but not yet all the way. Now adjust the top cable barrel to center neutral. Check engagement into fwd and reverse. If you can not get full engagement adjust slide up toward top and recenter neutral.
The interrupter reads the tension on the cable. it should only be activated when pulling out of gear. Often the switch gets messed with in attempt to keep it from dying when shifting into gear. If that happens it usually needs a shift cable replaced and you will have trouble getting it out of gear and/or finding neutral.
Shift cable are a 3-5 year service item.
