Question Drive Shower & Hyd Steering Questions

G'day all,

I'm fitting an IMCO hydraulic steering (single ram) kit to the Bravo 1 on my Stinger 222 and I'm just seeing if anyone knows which drive shower would work best?

I've been told the Halo version wont fit around the ram and knuckle, and neither will the dual pick up / feed line style shower cap.

Does that mean i'm stuck with a single pick up and if so, is that okay?

PS: Does anyone have any hot tips on how to extract a broken bolt from the back plate / cover? She's in there good and proper!

Thanks.

I have a Teague drive shower on my TCM XR drive. It has a single pickup and it moves a ton on water. You should be just fine with any single pickup drive shower.

Thanks Tom,
Do you happen to have any pics of your set up?

Cheers,
John

I now have another problem I porbably should have seen coming;
The IMCO ram mount for my drive has 5 bolt holes. I only have 3 in the drive. Do I have to drill and tap the outside 2? Is this safe? How far in should I drill?

Any pics of anyone elses set-up would be great too!

Ghost,
there is a drill kit available from Imco that will use your new back cap as a guide and drill the hole in the back of the upper case. The drill has a step on it so it uses the larger dia of 3/8" as the guide to drill the 5/16" hole (or what ever size you need for the 3/8" threads). I generally drill it till the step just touches the case, but first push one of the allen head bolts through the cap and measure how far they stick out.. then go a bit deeper. Then use a 3/8" tap with the cap still on to tap the holes. You can drain your drive some. Put the new cap on and then drill, blow it out, tap it, blow it out, and use a bottoming tap and blow it out again and your done. I use WD-40 for tapping, but other types can be used..
Just make sure the drill is straight thru the holes in the new cap for proper alignment. You can get a optical allusion by looking at the case because of it's shape.. I look at the interior of the holes in the back cap and if you havent taken any metal off of the ID.. you are straight. A piece of masking tap on the drill shank tells me the proper depth.. A 3/8" nut pressed on the tap shank and a ratchet and extension run the tap in.

Hope that makes sense and helps.

Dick

Brilliant ! Thanks mate, that's just what I was after!

Pitty 'down under' most things are metric, but I know what you mean so I'll go source those parts. (I need a bottoming tap set in imperial anyway!)

Cheers,
John
