Gear Shift Vibration?
I have twin 525's coupled to Bravo XR's in an '05 Formula Fastec. When shifting into neutral from either forward or reverse, when you get close to the center neutral position, I'm getting a lot of (vibration) or jerking just before reaching the center neutral position. I'm not easing the shifters into the neutral position, as I know Mercruiser does not suggest you do.
I have removed the shift cable from the drive and you can easily move the cable to change the shifter into all three positions by hand. I have checked and greased the detent ball...with no help in eliminating the vibration.
I have felt a little vibration on other boats I've owned, but this is excessive.
Any help or ideas of what could be causing this would be greatly appreciated.

Bad,
the bump rings on the driven gears are more than likely what you are feeling. If you spin a bravo and watch the shift fork it bounces up and down as the space between the gears changes position. It will wobble up and down as the high and low spots spin by. Why you can feel it in the lever up front, I dont know. I have never noticed it before. I would not worry about it. If the drive shifts smoothly and all looks good inside and cables are good.. Go boating!

Mine do that too.
I attribute it to wear on the the bump rings.
A new gear set seems to do it less than a seasoned set.
I wouldnt worry about it
