Default 2" shorty drive

I have a buddy looking for a 2" shorty drive to fit a bravo 1. Is IMCO the only company that you can get this from and does anybody have any used ones they are looking to get rid of? He was told that going to a 2" shorty drive would pick up at least 5mph on his baja h2x.

You can get a -2 sportsmaster. Look in the classifieds Imco is faster from what I hear.

Speed gain depends on hull. A friend with a 242 Formula/HP500 gained NOTHING. Loaned it to another friend with a 26 Sonic 540/640hp who picked up 4 mph. He then loaned it to his son with a 24 Baja Outlaw 502EFI who also gained NOTHING

Merc, Bmax and others also make shorties.

What kind of power is he currently running? If he's below 70 mph, he will most likely lose speed. What is hes current prop depth, speed, power, prop make/model/pitch ect.? The shorties usually needs a certain amount of speed to work. They will raise the prop shaft, but the torpedo has more drag than the stock B1. There are more factors than high prop shafts in going fast. He can always try it, then sell it if it does not work. Personally, unless he is running "bigish" power, I'd look into prop mods.

He has a 05 baja H2X with the 496 mag stock other than dana exh. He is running a 26 B1 prop. He runs 68.8 but I don't know the rpm. He was on a different site and some guy had the same boat with stock power and put a Imco 2" shorty on it and it ran 75 mph and other people chimed in saying it was BS but a few said that it was correct that the shorty would increase the speed on this hull. From this he is looking for a 2" shorty drive. I told him about the one in the classifieds last night.

I assume we are talking GPS speed?

Running 68.8 with that big prop and 375 hp, hes has a very good example of the H2X. Most don't see those numbers with the 496HO. No way in hel! he will see 75, maybe 71-72. He should try a Revolution 4 in 25" or a labbed M+ instead, Much cheaper too. The stock B1 prop is not the right prop for that boat at all, no way near enough bow lift to get that hull to air out. It's 24' and got a 21 degree dead rise, it's not a deep vee, stepped hull.

Good luck with it.

He did prop testing with Throttle up and the boat came with a 23 mirage plus but porpoised badly and was hitting the rev limiter. He realizes the B1 might not be the best for speed but it was the best all around for him. Yes, that was gps speed and the boat appears to be out of the water pretty good from pics I have of it. I should have let him try my 25 rev. before I got rid of it.
