Default What is the failure point of a SSM II drive?

What is the failure point in a TRS SSM II? After blowing out my Speedy II last time I started thinking what is the failure point in the outdrive? If the gears are susceptable to failure, has anybody thought about using straight cut gears? What about nitriding process, cryo process?
