Water in my merc trans ii
Hey all,
I picked up a new to me amberjack its got a 330 in it with a merc trans ii and a tr drive
I noticed it was not shifting comfortably and did some digging around. I found a water in the trans fluid
There was enough that it was coming out of the top of the vent on the trans.
I figured it was the trans cooler. I pulled it out, very simple loop that runs water through the trans fluid.
As far as I am able to tell it has no leaks. Plugged the one side and hooked the other to my air compressor
and dunked it in a 5 gallon bucket. No bubbles.
Where else could water be getting in there from? I am stumped!
Trans is a Merc Trans II model MCME

I have the same boat and had the same problem. but my cooler was swelled up a bit, as if freeze damage. Call Dubberts Outdrive in Port Clinton. I bet he could point you in the right direction, Steve

Since it sounds like you know the cooler is in trans ,and is not leaking. Flush fluid out a couple times, and try again .It's possible trans went under ...?water in bilge? Could boat have been partially submerged before you got it . Also how is the u-joint bellows .IIRC leaking bellows and bad rear seal could let water in ,fluid out .Been a while since messing with one .Just throwing out some ideas.

Need to pull the drive and see if it's got a lot of water in the bellows that could be entering the trans through the tail stock. That's a lot of water that has gotten into the trans. Clutch plates are probably ruined now.
