Default How to check xr drives?

I bought a 33 Outlaw that has been sitting for over 3 years. Looks like hell but I'll clean her up. Thing is I don't know if the drives are good because they were removed and one of them has the prop all scraped up. Come Monday I plan on climbing in to attempt to spin the twin 454 mag mpi's to see if they're seized. I already plan on pulling them to rebuild although I won't if its not necessary. But how can I check if the drives are good? I'm guessing you can't tell by just spinning them.

It's not that big of a deal to open them up ( providing you have the necessary tools.)

I wouldn't think that XR's would be hurt behind 385's.....anything over 499 hp and that's a different story

Lil red yes! Those pics on Craigslist were not of the actual boat tho. Needs some serious tlc.

Jay, I'm not worried about that kind of damage. I'm more concerned with him having hit something or running aground and something happening inside before spinning out the coupler. If I do open them up should I be doing anything while I'm there? Or just a gasket to reseal?

I was ready to get the boat. Damn seller told me those were recent pics! I was ready to go get it. But he stopped answering me and I thought it was a scam. Drain the fluid, check the magnets and pour the fluid through a screen or coffee filter. If that looks good, you're prob fine. Pull the back cap off and look for pitting, chips etc.

He said his phone was blowing up with ppl after that boat and had to turn it off. The listing did say 496ho's but they're actually 454 mag mpi's.
