is this a hard install? was gonna upgrade the shaft because i dont want to go loosing a prop! lol was gonna order from cpperformance http://www.cpperformance.com/p-15739...rsion-kit.aspx

It's not too bad, but you should have a shop manual to guide you. I see that kit uses the original gears, that will save some work.

Mercury makes a kit also which includes new lower gears as the shaft diameter is larger all the way to the spline. With the Mercury kit you have to shim both the pinion depth and set the backlash on the driven gear.

How are you worried about losing a prop? Shaft snapping ?

IF it doesnt use the bigger radius going into the gear I wouldnt bother, you would be better to pull gear and bore it out or buy a new one and use the even beefier shaft, the reason why I say this is when I sheared off a prop shaft it broke in that spot, fwiw, Smitty

Stock gears can be bored out IF they are perfect otherwise, I do it all the time
