Cool What is best transmision?

I am looking to run about 450 hp thru a trans to a 10 long shaft to a 14 x 19 prop. What is the best transmission to use? Also what is the most common transmission out there?

Most common might be the 72 C velvet drive

Thanks F-2 Speedy. I have purchased a 72C. It needs a complete rebuild is my guess. I've been quoted $1200.00. So before I commit, I wanted to see what others thought what is the best transmission. The model 72C I have is the type that normally plugs into an I/O unit. So I'm thinking of putting a flange on the end of the output splined shaft with one spider joint. This would then bolt to the flanged coupling on the shaft. I have a thrust bearing a couple of inches below this coupling.

That's a disgusting quote for a 72c, I would take it somewhere else. A stock rebuild should only be around $3-400. I pay $550 but that is guaranteed to 700HP with extra discs and I believe carbon fiber discs and I've pushed 600+ for 12 years.

Or rebuild it yourself. It's not a difficult transmission.

Default Best transmission

Thanks Rookie! I'll give that some serious thought. I'm in mid Michigan and it a 4 hour drive to the place I had thought about taking it for the rebuild. What is the location of where you use? Thanks.
