I am in the same boat.... looking to upgrade the stereo in my 99 272. This is what I am doing.

- 2 pairs of SPR-M700 7" Coaxial 2-Way Marine Speaker. $200.00 a pair on Alpine website. 1 pair for in front of Bolsters and 1 pair for rear bench.
- 1 pair of SPS-M600 6.5" Coaxial 2-Way Marine Speaker. $120.00 a pair on Alpine website. These will go where the stock speakers remain by the cup holders in the cockpit. Have to see, because I may put a 7" SPR-M700 7" Coaxial 2-Way Marine Speaker in here if they fit.
- 2 SWR-M100 10" Subwoofer for the back bench.. Use the pic as reference as to where you want them in the back bench.
- 2 PDX-V9 5 Channel Power Density Digital Amplifier.

Head unit? Alpine CDE-SXM145BT $250.00 on Alpines website.

1600.00 total parts except wiring on ebay.

0 gauge wire to distribution blocks. 4 gauge to the amp.
16 gauge wire to all speakers.
12 gauge wire to all subs.

I do . Cant post though. Watch out for clearance in front of drivers side bolster. I had to build some spacers to put polks in place of a original install. Sealing tha backside of the 272 cockpit speakers is unpleasant.the bench where the subs go is workable to go sealed if you want to feel bass notes kick the back of your bolster seats. Have to fab drains though.if standing water in the cockpit floor doesnt appeal to you.

If i was starting from scratch on the 272 i would of definetly pulled bolster seats ,moved radio to drivers side and if time allowed , pulled side panels . Maybe sealed off engine compartment from cabin through those panels and added vents next to ones already there at back sundeck. Turning the bench into a sealed enclosure does make the boat noticebly quieter at speed however.

Sure a sealed unit is good, but I don't think a sealed box is needed for the rear bench. I have not heard of clearance issues in front of the bolsters.
