1200 on the da doesn't build up and start cutting ? The price isn't much of a concern , we're spending almost 2 grand every Tues for materials , if its quicker and does as good or better , I have to give it a try ....

yea . . works great. have a 3M rep demo the system though. i hated the stuff till i figured out how to use it (than again i hated foam pads at one time too ). for automotive stuff i use it along with wetsanding for edges and tight spots. you can use the 1200DA paper wet as well, somtimes i will have a spray bottle handy for that. problem with that is its tough to see the progress. just for referance i will go through about 10 to 15 sheets to do an average hood. also the paper clogs up instantly if you dont use the soft intermideate pad .

Dave, not trying to take anything away from your thread here, but wanted to share some before/after photos of the project we're working on.

Rob has been a painter for over 15 years and this is the 3rd time he's painted the boat, but it's never been like it is today.

Pics are before clear. He cleared mid-week and started sanding last night. He is dry sanding for the first time. He's always wet sanded but after several conversations with others he decided to try the dry sand and so far so good.

This is a great thread. Rob likes and is comfortable with Spies Hecker because of the open time. PPG and DuPont paints didn't have the larger open time and over a certain time frame wanted a coat between them and well, that was very difficult for us to work with.

Like it was mentioned, the bow was very, very difficult. They are a pain and it appears there isn't as easy wasy around it.

Look forward to more reading!

Barb

First pic is our boat the last few years and following is new scheme.

boat looks great Barb and i am a fellow Stinger owner myself. you are correct about the open time of some of the paints. there are ways to get around that but i like to stay inside the 24 hour window myself. when i did the 39 Ocean Expsress cat the deck took me 24 hours to spray with all the graphics/fades and clear. there was no way to breat it up. started at 9:00am one morning and finished at 9:00 am the next. now that was a long day.

for those that dont know the open time is the time specified by the paint manufacturer that you have to get clear oven the base coat. most are 24 hours. i like to stick to this but if you go over you can either dust alittle color back on or use an adhesion pronoter.

more update pics comming soon . . . i know the suspense is killing Sean
