Re: boat painting 101

You're doing us such a service with this thread Dave.
Honestly, I'm getting close to putting glass on my little POS toy (until I can afford my Cig ), your pics and explanation is helping. I'm cutting the deck off of it tomorrow - weather permitting. I'll send you some pics, and over the next few months just expect your phone to be wringing...
expect the below phone calls:

"hello"
"OH SH!T!!!! HOW DO I FIX...."

"hello"
"OH SH!T!!!! I MIXED THE RESIN UP IN A SOUP CAN, AND IT'S REALLY HOT AND SMOKE IS COMING OUT...(go ahead and laugh, I've done this - but the fumes were great

"hello"
" Dave, - it's Tim, - I was talking to a guy around here, and he said I needed to replace the canooter valve - from the way the motor sounds, I thinks he's right. Do you have a canooter valve puller I can borrow??"

Tim,

I've never seen a canooter valve go. More likely it's the defibulator on the catastrophic converter. If ya can't find one, just tighten the ole sphincter valve, and give her full throttle..................

Your welcome. Here's a few pictures. We started with a palm beach colored '88 Formula 311.

We are almost done! The deck and cockpit get cleared tomorrow. Then the color sanding and buffing start. Going to dry sand. We have seen the results of the dry sanding process on acouple of local boats and it looks really good. That 3M paper is expensive

Thanks Dave - I'm sure I'll be in touch soon, probably gonna make a run up there in a few weeks, so I'll make sure to hook up with you and buy ya a beer.

The last time I changed the canooter valve it turned out not being the problem, it was the muffler bearings - so I yanked those damn things right the F@@@ out!!!!
