I would also be interested in what the "pros" use.

Wow...very nice cars!!!!!!
We used two stage car paint. One was PPG Red and the other was a Omni white. Plus, three coats of clear coat.

Cool thread...I have a small sections on my boat I'm going to attempt to paint myself so it's very helpful to see the right way to do it
Plus I'm not far from Toledo if I need to pay Glassdave to fix it

I always use 1500 or 2000 grit after it has soaked in soapy water for half an hour or so , then perfect it with a wool pad then finesse it with foam pad .

you guys really need to try dry sanding with 1200 (the key is using an intermideate pad) than follow that with 3000 (Trizac) wet on a DA . dump that wool pad an use only foam . WWAAAYYYYY easier. you will never see a sand scratch again and takes way less time. biggest deterant as to why most people dont try it this way is the box of 1200 is $80.00 an a box of 3000 Trizacs is almost $50.00 for 15 sheets. well worth it though. those old school methods still work fine but technology has really came around for this field. took me a while to get with it but once i figured out how to use these products properly its a night an day differance. besides i cant even begin to imagine wetsanding an entire 38 foot boat by hand.
tssteph- nice vettes, i have restored just about one from every year produced ( up to about 74 that is). my favorite is the 54 love that straight six.

I only use foam pads, hate the whool ones. I waterbug with 1500 and know the wet sanding out fast. Works great. I agree the paper is very expensive but so is my time.
