Default Bonding Deck/Hull??

Just curious to how you are bonding the top deck and hull sides. Since my deck is very heavy i was planning to through bolt with stainless bolts then run some fiberglass tape on the inside.

Also anyone have a suggestion on rubrail?

This is for my 1979 Formula 255 project, just getting started.

Thanks

The ones that I have seen they applied 5200 in all the voids and then thru bolted using a plate on the back side ......they say it really tightens things up

That's what I did (tape, minus the thru-bolts) on the Martini project years ago. The factory did a great job in glassing them together but I took it a step further and made strategic cutouts behind the upholstery to 'go where no man has gone before'.

The bolts are going to make it a little tricky when it comes to fiberglassing, even if you are shortening them as much as possible. What if you just used the tape and then bolts for the rubrail that would sort of serve a 'dual' purpose?

Any initial pics to offer? I really dig projects!

This is a major project, I am just starting to fill the portholes. I will fill the forward deck hatch, and considering filling the second deck hatch. I will not have any cuddy interior, just use it for storage. I have a cabin cruiser for spending the night. After the outside is finished and in primer I will start taking up the floor and transom. Lots of work to do.

Cool.

How's the bottom look? Is there much work there? ie. straightening a hook or replacing gel?

The bottom is straight, I will raise it up and check it again. Its been sitting in this spot for about a year and a half waiting for me to get some time...

I did mine with 5200 and through bolted it. Worked very well. There are other things that you can use but that to me was the easiest. What I liked about it was that it stays flexable just a little. You can get rub rails that are an exact match to your old ones from Taco. Boat US and West Marine can order them for you.
