Re: moisture meters
Only thing I can tell you is that if a stringer is completely rotted out, the moisture meter won't be of any use. I assume because there is not enough wood left to retain moisture. I know this from first hand experience. Surveyor found no moisture in stringers- guess what, there were no stringers, just the glass shell.

Re: moisture meters
I have a guy whos running out to look at a certain hull for me now who brings a meter and a hammer.
The hammer will detect the missing core.

Re: moisture meters
I wonder if that is why some of these guys are going over to IR Camera's?

Re: moisture meters
I know a lot of surveyors and they all have moisture meters. The good ones almost never use them and go with the hammer method. A moisture meter can be very inaccurate unless the person using it is knows what hes doing.

Re: moisture meters
Wow the IR looks pretty impressive.
I have a spot on my boat where one of the trim tab bolts fell out. this of course got wet. While tapping slightly with my body
hammer as you approach the hole it changes tone quite a bit.
In the auto business. When it come to body work 90%
of the time you know where you stand just by looking,
However in boats im thinking it can be a sleeping nightmare.
Audiofn. I have seen the impressive work you have done.
I may need some guidance if I pulll the triger on this deal.

Re: moisture meters
How exactly do you tap on it with the hammer. I know if I had a boat I cared about or was worth big money and some guy came "tapping" with a hammer there would be a problem.
