Floorboard... plywood or ?
Hey guys, got new wood in my stringers and bulkheads and am getting very close to putting the floor back on.
I keep tossing around using 3/4" HDPE. Any thoughts on that stuff? If I went that route I would build crossmembers over the center tank and around the bolsters. I couldn't epoxy it so I'd have to use a buttload of attaching screws (to the crossmembers) and something like 4200 to seal between seams and hull. The benefit here is that for some reason I ever wanted to get back under there, all I would need to do is pull a bunch of screws and cut the seal. (I'd keep it covered with a mat or carpet)
I think the cost might be close, considering 4x8 sheets of marine plywood ($85/ea local) and ~$50/ea sheet for glass/resin vs. $199/ea sheet for HDPE, it's not enough difference to scare me off.

Hey glassdave... it just happens to be a scarab III (8'x8'5")
That extra 5" is causing me heartburn!
Ya know another project I'm after is a fairing... have you thought about making one for yours?

yep . . .my whole boat is geting a hude facelift next winter. got these pics from someone on speedwake. ScarabIII with split bolsters and a bunch of custom glass work. no port holes and bow rails really look good along with the fairing. knocked 10 years off the looks of the boat.

I have the same thoughts... I wouldn't have picked it up if I didn't see those pic's. Without a doubt the best looking III I've seen.

Re: Floorboard... plywood or ?
I started on the portholes from the inside... following audiofn's porthole job. I'm beginning to think it would have been easier to start from the outside and work my way in. The thickness of the hull is uneven, It's like 1/2" on top and a 1/4" thick on bottom. I now plan to use a mixture of cabosil and milled fiber to take care of the uneven part, then a final layer of glass to the hull. I'm gettin fairly good at the rough stuff, but I haven't the patience yet for making it pretty.

Re: Floorboard... plywood or ?
believe it or not i spoted these bolsters one morning while leaving my marina to get some breakfast. they were outside of a local body shop by the curb with a for sale sign on them. got the pair for $350.00 cash. talk about being in the right place at the right time. they had just recovered them. i am having them re-done in all white though
