How does the factories get a super hull shine right out of the mold , whenever I paint new gel it dries flat and needs lots of sanding and buffing to make it shine , looks good but still doesn't look like the factory gel . Jp

The nicer and straighter the mold is...the nicer the finish will be....Keep in mind when a boat MFG sprays gel into a mold ...those are near perfect conditions for gel... ie the cured surface is not exposed to the atmosphere...and is laying against,and conforming to,a highly polished surface...the nicer the mold ,the nicer the results...You cant duplicate it by spraying gel like paint...from the outside...you can come close,but there is always orange peel,sanding and buffing....Some high end MFG even sand and buff boats as they come out of the mold...Paint is a whole lot easier to make shiney than gelcoat is

I've been at the henriques plant when they rolled a hull out of the mold. The next thing I saw later that day was like 6 guys all over the thing sanding and polishing a like 40 footer!

3M makes a 3000 grit (wet sand paper) english color sells it....
gel-coat for the finished look it nust be wet!!!
after sanding compound buff and wax.......
