Matching powder coated paint ??
I have a couple of small scratches in my purple powder coated rails that I want to try to touch up. Does anyone know if there is a source for paints that will match the powders? I've tried an autobody place but they can't get the color right. Thanks for any input..

If you can take a grab rail or small piece of painted hardware to a paint store, you might have a better chance because they will have more time to "play" with it. Don't rush them and your patience may pay off. If you have called the factory (if it is OEM) they might have a code that will match.

A match will be difficult, the gloss is always a factor. There is a company that specializes in matching powder. Company is called RAABE - look them up on line. You will need to send them and original color chip. They do a nice job either wet small bottles or spray cans - I believe the minimum mix cost is
$ 300.00 Any local paint shop can do this if they take the time and have the tallent.

Since the purple powder coat is usually a candy purple and is a translucent color, it may be difficult to blend. It will probably darken the surrounding areas before you get the damaged area to match. Have you thought about removing the parts and having them striped and re-coated?

I have done the "let's match the powder coat paint" trick. Taking the actual part to the automotive paint store is a great idea. Worked for me. Also a big yes on the high gloss factor (especially if the rails were top coated with pc clear). You will need to go the "base coat/clear coat" route. Had my outdrives powder coated deep purple and painted the gimbals to match. Came out great. As previously posted, patience will reward you. Bottom line is, it can be done.

Thanks for reiterating the PS suggestion. I know some mixing guys that are great with this and others I don't want to mix anything for me. They want to match so they can sell and they usually get paid by the hour!
