What type of plywood?
I am getting ready to rebuild the seats in my 22 veloctiy. The question that I have is do I need to use marine grade ply, or can I use exterior grade? It does not appear to be marine grade plywood from the factory!?!? I don't mind spending the money to do it right!!

I would use exterior and resin coat them or give them a fiberglass wrap. Or you could epoxy coat them whichever you like and they will last a loong time.

Re: What type of plywood?
What cat 5 said. I just did all the wood over on my 94 scarab. Used marine ply and rolled a coat of epoxy over it all to seal it up a bit. My rear bench was like a sponge , nothing left. Hope it lasts a bit longer. The marine ply is expensive , paid like 75 beans today for a sheet of 1/2 in for another interior job I'm working on. 3/4 was like 100 a sheet. Rather do it once though .

I used starboard to re-do my bolser bottoms...no worry about moisture there but it's VERY expensive. If I remember my trade journal article on plywood correctly, there isn't that much difference between regurlar exterior grade plywood and marine grade, it has to do with the plugs and knots in the marine plys, less or none, the glue is the same.

Re: What type of plywood?
Several companies are making composite board similar to starboard but at about half the cost. I would only use wood to save money. Otherwise composite is the way to go. Glue sticks to this stuff awesome and staples work as well.

Use PVC board, it's stronger, lighter, and cheaper than starboard, and best of all, you can glue it together. You have to mechanically attach starboard. Nothing will glue to it.

Re: What type of plywood?
I agree with Cuda, We use Marine Plywood with Epoxy resin in a lot of applications, PVC Board is great but the open area you are spanning, such as seat bottoms you will get breakage if there is not enough support. We also use Coosa Foam, Mantex, and Nyla Board in certain applications, Don't recommend Treated as the Moisture content is so high it will take forever to dry down to 15% so that the resin will adhere properly. One other point is to make sure and cut Drain- Vent holes and you could change out the foam to Dry Deck foam and you would never have to worry about it again. Don Good Luck

I don't know what pvc board is but I use a plastic board and it's as strong as plywood. It's also just a touch lighter. It's made in Grand Rapids and is sold in 4x8 sheets. I usually get 3/4" for seat construction. Glue sticks extremely well to the stuff.
