You can get the effect your after by stretching some fleece over your layout in the first post. Once stretched it will contour around all of the bezels. Then coat with some resin, once it hardens you can add glass to the back to strengthen. This would require securing the bezels or cutting rings from mdf or other material to secure the rings/bezels until the fleece is hardened. You then can remove the bezels and glass you 1 piece cover to the existing dash.

Best thing with this is you can play with the shape by moving certain bezels out further and by stretching harder in one direction. Or by adding other shapes.

Look into some stereo sites like mp3car.com on speaker box building.

I tested the foam with resin ate it up like acid, Mixed up a batch of Elmers glue spred a thin coat over the mold and it is dry so I'm going for the fiberglass, My first time ever to open a can of resin. Wish you guy's were here, wish me luck, this is going to be real comedy Good link Tod I may go that rout after I Fuc7 this one up. If this works. I'll feel better about cutting a hole in my deck with a chain saw for the sunroof.

You can put a coat of latex paint on the foam and that should keep the resin from eating the foam up....

Fleece is also a good one and very common in the audio world for making custom Sub box's

When i did my dash i went to wally world and bought some material you would find B-ball jerzys made from...i only wanted it as a base to start with ...then i added layers of glass ontop of it....heres a few pics: Before - During - After

the only thing i question about the fleece trick is durability in the marine/offshore environment. lets face it we take quite a pounding over time. gonna fafta give it a try here pretty soon.

oh an for those that didnt see the original post in the 101 thread i did not, in fact, use a chain saw to chop the hole in the deck of SeanH's Specter
