Trying to get paint off my circ and raw water pump pullies. Huge difference using paint stripper between primed areas and not primed. My search didn't turn up much advice except on refinishing drives. I don't think it'd be worth it for me to take four pullies to a sandblaster so I'm trying to do it myself.

You could try Metyleenchloride, this is some sort paint remover (but its thin like water),you can put is in a can ,and let your pully,s go under ,and leave them there for a few hours
When you take them out you only have to wash them with scotch brite and water.
OEM merc paint is very tough ,and is usually more difficult to remove than other paint systems.
good luck

Two years ago I decided to repaint my drive. I tried everything to remove the OEM finish. Paint strippers, DA wheels, you name it. Finally bead blasted it. Did the whole drive in probably 1 hr.

I didn't take pictures of the raw water pump pullies but those get the really good process just like the drives apparently. I wanted to strip everything and start from scratch. When it comes time to clean up the drives, definitely going to leave them alone and paint over.
