Hey guy i would recommend reglassing the holes with chesse cloth 4,6 or 10 oz which should be fine and much easier to work with then using using a heavier fabric . I also would like to mention that if you do not re glass the holes there is always that chance of some sort of shrinkage were the old holes existed and haunting you in the future .
