I have 2 thin coats in the bilge. Outside temp is in mid 80's & in direct sunlight.

Yesterday I painted my bilge with gloss wjite I rustoleum & the Valspar additive (2 ozs per qt of paint). Checked it today & the surface is hard but if I drag my finger nail over it, it will scratch off. In the quart mixing cup the residue is hard on the surface but below the surface it is soft. Residue is is 0.125 thick.

Old thread, but about to try the rustoleum in te engine compartment of boat while the engine is out. I used the bilge paint from west marine last time, but it was real expensive because I needed a lot on my last boat due to stringer work. Results were decent. Didn't peel.

I'm going to start on my bilge Saturday. I was going to use the Interlux bilge koat but I may go with the rustoleum and hardener now. Sounds like that may be the deal. I'll post you guys up on the finished product too.

They make a oil base hardener that works with the rust-oleum its called Valspar Enamel Hardener. Also take a look at Sherwin Williams tile clad epoxy paint looks good and hard as a rock. You can brush or roll it on. Gas oil grease wont touch it

If your bilge is gel coat, I would stick with gel and put duratec additive in it. I really dont think tractor paint is a good option. Imron is another option that I would venture to guess would be durable than about any other paint out there.
